Tile cutting blades, and any blade designed to cut porcelain or ceramic tile, are most often continuous rim diamond cutting blades. Some blade designs are segmented, and should be of the highest possible quality to avoid chipping, and most tile saw blades are diamond coated. Thinner blades cut tiles faster, wider blades are less prone to bending, and softer metal rims are generally used for cutting harder material. Hard metal rimmed blades are designed to cut through soft material.
