Platform FP Trowelable Flooring Underlayment and Patch is a premium latex-modified cementitious patching compound designed to quickly smooth, repair, and prepare interior subfloors prior to the installation of finished flooring materials.
Simply mixed with water, Platform FP develops a smooth, creamy consistency that trowels easily across concrete, wood, ceramic tile, terrazzo, masonry, and other properly prepared substrates. Its rapid-drying formula allows floor coverings to be installed in as little as 30 to 60 minutes, helping contractors complete projects faster while minimizing downtime.
Suitable for applications from featheredge to 1/2 inch (12 mm), Platform FP effectively fills cracks, low spots, surface imperfections, and transition areas while creating a durable, smooth surface ready for vinyl, carpet, engineered wood, ceramic tile, and other flooring materials.
Its RH-tolerant formulation allows moisture vapor transmission, while excellent adhesion often eliminates the need for primers or additives. Easy sanding and outstanding coverage make Platform FP an ideal solution for both residential and commercial flooring preparation projects.
Concrete Floors
All concrete must be sound, stable, clean and free of any bond breaking materials (silicates, curing compounds, laitance, dirt). Mechanically remove weak surfaces, and any contaminants to sound concrete. Priming is not required. Apply from feather edge to 1/2" in depth.
Adhesive Residue
Non-soluble adhesives must be scraped to a well bonded residue. Water soluble and pressure sensitive adhesives must be removed mechanically to the substrate. Verify type of adhesive prior to mechanical removal to ensure adhesive containing asbestos is not introduced into the environment. Follow all local, state and federal laws for removal and disposal of adhesive or flooring materials containing asbestos. Test to ensure any existing adhesive will not bleed through to new adhesive, or finished flooring. If substrate (concrete) under adhesive is weak or poorly bonded, remove such areas down to well bonded, sound, clean substrate.
Wood
Platform FP is suitable for skimcoating well bonded (screwed and glued) APA rated, exterior grade wood floors free of deflection. Wood floors are required to be a minimum of 3/4", L/360 and comply to local building codes. No primer is required. Do not install over OSB, chipboard, Masonite, or surfaces non APA rated, and/or non-dimensionally stable materials subject to swelling or movement.
Quarry and Ceramic Tile
Ensure waxes or sealers are stripped from the surface of the tiles. Abrade to a dull finish. Remove dust by vacuum. Consider utilizing Platform P360 primer for additional bond.
Gypsum substrates
Not recommended for use over gypsum floors. Contact Platform for a superior feather finishing patch material compatible with gypsum substrates.
Vinyl Flooring
Platform FP is suitable as an embossing patch over vinyl flooring. Vinyl flooring must be well bonded, dry, clean and free of any bond breaking materials (wax, coatings, laitance, dirt, etc.) Priming is usually not required but consider using Platform P360 for additional bond.
Mixing
Water: Up to 2.5 US Qts per 10 lb bag Alternatively, mix by volume, 2 Parts Powder to 1 Part Water.
Mix Method: ALWAYS utilize a drill and mix until material is thoroughly homogenous and lump free. Overwatering and/or under mixing will result in difficult placement and lower ultimate compressive strengths.
Add designated clean, potable water to a clean mixing vessel, add the powder and mix mechanically until homogenous and lump free. Mix no more material than can be placed within 10 minutes. Do not remix with additional water.
Material Application
Utilize a clean trowel to place the material across on the surface of the substrate. No minimum thickness is required. For deeper areas, allow initial coat to reach partial set prior to building layers. Once dry, material may be sanded to remove placement imperfections prior to installation of floorcovering.
Dry Time Prior to Flooring Installation Platform FP is self drying, do not wet cure or use curing or sealing compounds. Depth of placement and ambient conditions (temperature and humidity) will impact the dry time of the material. Material is typically dry in 30-45 minutes and ready for light sanding prior to application of flooring, or direct application of flooring.
