Functionality, flexibility and design in a single system – Schluter DESIGN-NICHE has it all. The prefabricated installation element can be used to create a wide range of design features on walls, not just in the bathroom, but everywhere in the home: The rectangular niches are available in three different dimensions and five attractive TRENDLINE colours and can be installed both vertically and horizontally, flush with the surface or protruding from the tiling.
Schluter DESIGN-NICHE is made of powder-coated aluminium and comes with a height-adjustable frame made of anodised aluminium, a prefabricated KERDI collar for secure waterproofing and the KERDI-FIX installation adhesive. Installation is quick and easy, and the niche has the added bonus of being lightweight and waterproof.
Installation in Schluter KERDI-BOARD:
Step 1
Make a cut-out by positioning and precisely marking the external dimensions of the niche and the frame. Only the top layer of the frame needs to be cut out.
Step 2
Completely cut out the wall for the recess in the niche.
Step 3
Determination of the above dimension. Adjustment range can be selected from 1/8" to 2-3/16".
Step 4
Use the 3/16" spacing grid when using the knurled nut as shown.
Step 5
Infinitely variable adjustment of the distance by turning the knurled nut.
Step 6
Apply KERDI-FIX to the recess to bond the spacers, then insert and align the spacers.
Step 7
Apply KERDI-FIX to the spacers to bond the frame, then insert and align the frame. Protect the outer surfaces of the niche with masking tape.
Step 8
Use KERDI-FIX to completely fill the joint between the niche and the frame.
Step 9
The KERDI sealing collar is glued to the frame and the adjacent waterproofing with ALL-SET Modified Thin-set Mortar.
Step 10
Then remove the masking tape again. Fresh residues of KERDI-FIX can be removed with spray oil (such as WD-40).
What this product is made from
The DESIGN-NICHE is available in the following material versions:
AC = colour coated aluminium
TS = textured finished aluminium
AC (colour coated aluminium): The aluminium is pre-treated and powder-coated with a polyurethane covering.
The coating is colour stable, UV resistant, and suitable for exterior use. The visible edges must be protected against abrasion or scratching.
TS profiles (textured finished aluminium): The surfaces have a natural appearance.
In conjunction with Schluter KERDI or KERDI-BOARD and the matching KERDI-KEBA, installers can create certified bonded waterproofing assemblies.
Maintenance instructions
Schluter DESIGN-NICHE requires no special maintenance or care. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents on the sensitive surfaces. All cleaning agents must be free of hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid.
